Kerala govt hospital deploys robot to serve food, medicines to COVID-19 patients

● A government hospital in Ernakulam, Kerala has deployed a robot to serve food and medicines to coronavirus patients.

● The Viswasanthi Foundation of Malayalam star Mohanlal has donated the autonomous robot to the Ernakulam government medical college hospital's COVID-19 ward.

● The robot named 'KARMI-Bot' will be used to assist patients at the medical college's COVID-19 isolation ward.

● The robot is being developed by ASIMOV robotics, a company that operates under the Kerala start-up project maker village.

● The purpose of this project is to limit the interaction between COVID-19 patients and health workers as well as to address the shortage of PPE kits by minimizing its use.

RBI announces Special Liquidity Facility for Mutual Funds of Rs 50,000 crore

● The Reserve Bank of India announced a Special Liquidity Facility for Mutual Funds (SLF-MF) of 50,000 crore rupees with a view to easing liquidity pressures on MFs.

● The RBI has said it remains cautious and will take whatever measures are appropriate to minimize COVID-19's economic effects and maintain financial stability.

● In response to COVID-19, the increased volatility in capital markets has put liquidity strains on Mutual Funds, which have escalated as a result of redemption pressures linked to the closing of certain MFs of debt and possible contagious impact.

● The Apex bank has said that under the Special Liquidity Facility for Mutual Funds (SLF-MF), the RBI shall conduct repo operations of 90 days tenor at the fixed repo rate.

Govt appoints new Secretaries in different Ministries and Departments 

• The Union Government appointed new Secretaries, Special Secretaries and Additional Secretaries in different Ministries and Departments.
• Information and Broadcasting Secretary Ravi Mittal has been appointed as the Sports Secretary.
• Secretary, Higher Education Amit Khare will hold additional charge of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
• CBSE Chairperson Anita Karwal has been appointed as Secretary School Education and  Literacy.
• Health Secretary Preeti Sudan, who was to retire this month, has been given a three month extension.
• Vice Chairman of Delhi Development Authority Tarun Kapoor will be Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas .
• Tarun Bajaj will be Secretary Department of Economic Affairs in the Ministry of Finance.

Justice Mohammad Rafiq takes oath as Chief Justice of Orissa High Court

• Odisha Governor Professor Ganeshi Lal administered the oath to Justice  Mohammad Rafiq as the Chief Justice of  Orissa High Court.
• Justice Rafiq will serve as the 31st Chief Justice of Orissa High Court.
• Justice Rafiq was previously serving as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court.
• Meanwhile, Justice Biswanath Somadder took oath as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court.

Former governor, veteran Congress leader Devanand Konwar dies at 86 

● Former Governor of Bihar and Tripura and veteran Congress leader Devanand Konwar died  of old age ailments

● He was governor of Bihar from July 24, 2009 to March 8, 2013 and of Tripura between March 25, 2013 and June 29, 2014.

● He had also served as governor (additional charge) of West Bengal from December 2009 to January 2010.

● Konwar had joined the Congress in 1955 as a student leader.

● He became a Cabinet minister in the governments of Assam headed by Hiteswar Saikia and later by Tarun Gogoi.

Animals at two mink farms in Netherlands tested positive for COVID-19

● Animals at two mink farms in the Netherlands have tested positive for COVID-19.

● Some staff at the two farms had earlier displayed symptoms of the disease so it is assumed that these are human-to-animal infections.

● As a precaution, authorities are closing roads  within 400 meters of the affected farms.

K● The minks are not the first animals infected with the coronavirus.

● The results come after positive testing in two house cats in the state of New York and in several tigers and lions in the Bronx Zoo, contributing to a limited number of confirmed animal virus cases worldwide. 

WCD Ministry takes unique initiative 'doorstep Aanganwadi' to reach out to children during lockdown in Gujarat 

● In Gujarat, Women and Child Development Ministry (WCD) has taken a unique initiative called Umbare Aanganwadi, i.e doorstep Aanganwadi to reach out to children during the lockdown.

● The government has not only ensured the nutritious food to the children but also ensure their overall  development.

● The ICDS Department has launched a TV programme called Umbare Aanganwadi which is telecast every alternate day through Vande Gujarat channel as well as Jio TV. Same is also telecast on You Tube.

● The regular theme based modules of Aanganwadi are being taught in an interactive the way in the programme  which children can watch with their parents.

● The programme is targeted to around 14 lakh Aanganwadi children in the age group of 3-6 years old.

● The department has also distributed ready to eat nutritious food packets by AMUL to its beneficiaries including children pregnant women and adolescent girls through the network of around 53 thousand Aanganwadi.

Indian Railways' 9000 HP freight locomotive clocks 100kmph in successful trial run

● Indian Railways is all set to get a new 9000HP WAG-9HH electric locomotive which was manufactured in Chittaranjan Locomotive Works(CLW).

● The locomotive has successfully passed the oscillation and EBD trial conducted by the Research Design and  Standards Organisation (RDSO). 

● The trials were conducted on the Northern Railway zone of Indian Railways between 31 January 2020 to 26 February.

● According to Railway Ministry officials the locomotive is  equipped with modern and advanced features and there has been an upgradation of power of WAP-7 and WAG-9 locomotive from 6,000 HP to 9,000 HP.

● The 9,000 HP freight locomotive has increased line  capacity and right powering of trains.

● The Chittaranjan Locomotive Works located in West Bengal produced 402 locomotives in the financial year 2018-19. CLW has broken their own record of manufacturing 350 locomotives that they had produced during 2017-18.
